Intuition: Listening for Grace
How can you distinguish between the voice of inner guidance and that of an aspect of your personality? Listening for the quiet voice of Intuition can be a challenge. There are so many voices of our past residing inside: parents, teachers, loved ones, media, religion, culture. How can we know it is our inner guidance speaking to us?
I have found that intuition speaks most clearly to me in silence. When I am able to be still and really listen. But, as I tend to be rather kinetic and often impatient, I discovered that being quiet and still is the way that I first speak to intuition, letting her know where I would like help. This shows my intentions and where I am ready to accept help. I try to be as clear as possible in stating the issue and asking for help. I do intend to pay attention.
I then move into my day, confident that I will hear, see or feel the voice of Intuition. Because of my interest in art, drama and dialogue, Intuition often speaks to me in these forms that are most familiar to me. I love stories, and they often come to me as answers to my questions.
I am working on trust. Yesterday, I was in the park and stood before a newly raked circle of earth. I became very quiet, breathing deeply. When I reached a state of stillness, I asked for clear examples of how Grace worked in my life in this area. Then I continued walking through the park, staying alert for the answers I'd receive.
Stopping to do tai chi, I was surprised by a group of students who stopped in front of me. They were with their teacher and he was giving them the history of rocks that were gathered in the area. The teacher spoke softly and wanting to hear his words, I moved closer. My sense of etiquette dueled with my knowing that what was to be said was also for me to hear. I had the courage to move past my inner walls and sat down on the wall of stone.
In doing so, I was able to hear how the stones were once the building blocks of a Scottish monastery from the 1100s. They were imported to a city in Southern California and then to San Francisco when the original plans changed. At an earlier time, I had used the stones to build small sculptures signifying the positive steps I was taking in my life.
Today, I was hearing that these same stones dated back to a building from the 1100s. Chills ran through my body. This story was my answer. If Grace could move across oceans and time, these stones that I created sculptures with, She certainly could bring forth other connections, if I had the courage to pay attention and act on inner guidance.
These simple steps can make it easier to hear Grace's messenger coaxing you forward.
1. Get very quiet.
2. Breath yourself still.
3. Ask for help. Clearly state the issue you want help with.
4. Intend to pay attention.
5. Move into your day confident that you will hear the true voice of intuition speaking to you.
6. Wait for your emotional, mental or physical body's confirmation.
7. Act on the guidance.
